ABOUT THE CASE

Chris Kearney is innocent and awaiting trial for a crime he did not commit.

Chris Kearney was arrested and charged with the 2017 murder of Daniel Salcido. He is currently incarcerated waiting for his second trial. There is no evidence linking to the crime, and ample evidence implicating another suspect. Chris’s first trial was declared a mistrial because at least one member of the jury would not vote to convict him. The prosecutors involved have every intention of convicting Chris despite strong evidence of his innocence, and he will need the absolute best legal representation to have a chance in court.

Witness coercion, coaching, and intimidation.

All of the state’s key witness testimony stems from intimidation and coercion by the police and coaching and misrepresentation by the prosecution. The only witnesses who claimed to see the shooting described the shooter as a light-skinned black man. Chris Kearney is a dark-skinned black man. Knowing that this would undermine their case, prosecutors misrepresented these descriptions in court, telling the jury that the initial reports were of a “husky black male.”

None of the witnesses involved have ever affirmatively identified Chris Kearney as the shooter, while one witness was also a suspect in the case himself: Derrick Bridges.

Derrick Bridges and other suspects

Derrick Bridges was initially a suspect in the case and admitted that he only testified for the prosecution due to consistent harassment from the police, and the offer of leniency related to this and other pending criminal charges.

He also indicated that many of his statements were given under the influence of PCP after having not slept for 2 weeks. Treasure Truman (Derrick’s girlfriend’s sister) provided statements to the police only after she was informed that her car was spotted leaving the scene of the crime, and multiple rounds of police harassment and coercion.

One witness picked another man, Marshaun Logan, out of a photo lineup and identified him as the shooter.  He matched the physical description of the suspect provided by other witnesses and owned a car matching the description of a car on the scene of the shooting.

The police swiftly eliminated him as a suspect because his phone pinged in the city of Fontana where he claimed to have attended a birthday party. He showed a video of the party, although he did not appear in the video. Whether Marshaun was guilty or not, the lack of a thorough investigation into alternate suspects undermines the credibility of the entire case.

Outmatched defense counsel

Christopher Kearney is innocent. Though there is no evidence in the case against him, the prosecution has employed witness intimidation tactics and ignored eye-witness testimony in an attempt to convict Chris of a crime he did not commit.

Chris will need the best legal team available to fight for the justice he deserves. He CAN win his freedom, but not without our help.

Chris Kearney’s next court date is coming up fast on April 2nd, and it’s crucial that he has a new legal team sworn in and ready to take his case before then. Our deadline to raise $75,000 is March 31st. We know that if each person who reads this contributes we can make that deadline, but we must act fast and spread the word! This could be his last chance at a fair trial. This could save his life.
